Writing for WE Charity, in 2017 I traveled to rural Kenya to document a number of the non-profit’s most significant trips experiences. One group that really stuck with me were our guests from Mastermind Toys. While many companies preferred to send only their senior executives overseas, Mastermind CEO Jon Levy chose instead to open this unique opportunity to employees at all levels within the company.

Every year, Colorado gets roughly 300 days of sunshine. That’s 300 days filled with long hikes, mountain air, brewery tours, and exploring. Andrew Moncrief is talented enough to create beautiful, classically styled figures, and brave enough to smear paint over their faces. In my review of his “Unseen” exhibit, I interviewed the 28-year-old artist on his emerging style and the game of chicken he plays with every painting. After tearing her left ACL, Canadian olympic hopeful Kaya Turski had a synthetic ligament inserted into her knee to return to training as soon as possible. This article examines Turski’s case and whether using synthetic ligaments is a safe choice, both in short and longterm cases.

This article discusses new scientific research into “Brown Fat,” a tissue that’s been making headlines because of how it actually helps burn calories.

The piece was published March 13th, 2014 in Catalyst, an online science-news magazine run by Carleton’s school of journalism. I both wrote the article and put together the images and layout.

Carving ice into art

Teams of ice carvers from across the globe gathered from Jan. 31st to Feb. 2nd to demonstrate their talents during Winterlude 2014’s team ice carving competition. During the 30 hours, carvers raced to build the best sculpture they could out of 18 blocks, each weighing roughly 300 pounds.
