This article discusses new scientific research into “Brown Fat,” a tissue that’s been making headlines because of how it actually helps burn calories.
The piece was published March 13th, 2014 in Catalyst, an online science-news magazine run by Carleton’s school of journalism. I both wrote the article and put together the images and layout.
Teams of ice carvers from across the globe gathered from Jan. 31st to Feb. 2nd to demonstrate their talents during Winterlude 2014’s team ice carving competition. During the 30 hours, carvers raced to build the best sculpture they could out of 18 blocks, each weighing roughly 300 pounds.
